Die Theorien, welche die Industrie und Krupp als Steigbügelhalter Hitlers darzustellen versuchten, wurden nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg weiter gesponnen und trieben ihre wohl farbenprächtigsten Blüten in den Werken William Manchesters, bis sie vor nicht allzu langer Zeit wissenschaftlich wiederlegt wurden. Einen ersten Anstoß in diese Richtung liefert Werner Abelshauser, der durch seine Fragestellung „Krupp-Rüstungsschmiede der Nation?“ darauf hinweist, dass bei genauer Betrachtung des vorhandenen Zahlenmaterials zu Umfang und prozentualem Anteil der im Hause Krupp erzeugten Rüstungsgüter das überlieferte Bild zumindest fraglich wird.
