( NOT TO MENTION THR RUSSIANS ) should have read this BEFORE MOVING INTO AFGHANASTAN. The tribes on the north west frontier have fought each other

and anyone else trying to pacifying them, since the beginning of time.

PARKISTAN IS SMART ENOUGH TO DECLARE IT TRIBAL TERRITORY, AND LEAVE IT ALONE.The book covers the historical aspects in an interesting way.

Very interesting history of a fascinating unit

I enjoyed this immensely. Full of local colour and very good in terms of historical detail. It really is an amazing tale of a unit first raised by the British during their time on the north west frontier of what was then India but is now Pakistan.It is sobering how little changed the general situation is in that region. Operating on the principle that it was best to set a thief to catch a thief, the British recruited local tribesmen to control the frontier and control their fellow tribesmen.

The author travelled to the region while preparing this - very brave - and gives a taste of the local colour. I would have liked this to be more tightly structured. But an informative and enjoyable read overall.

Dyslexia Screening: Essential Concepts . . . Is an excellent tool to have when planning and designing strategies to implement early screening and intervention programs in our school districts. After 10 years of working with dyslexic children, I was thrilled to see the importance of standardized test as well as "informal measures." Dr. Selznick covers the key areas and behaviors to be observing and many ways to make early screening work in your school environment. The key to finding success for all, meaning children in need of early intervention, teachers in need of tools, and administrators looking for a plan that will work is Beginning with this book.

As a reminder, the purpose of screening was clearly stated: "dyslexia screening is a tool for identifying children who are at risk for this learning disability, particularly in preschool, kindergarten, or first grade. This means that the screening does not “diagnose” dyslexia. Rather, it identifies “predictor variables” that raise red flags, so parents and teachers can intervene early and effectively."

In this "first of its kind" book, Dr. Selznick shares what he has learned from consulting with public schools in New Jersey about how to implement their new law which requires schools to screen for dyslexia.

In this step-by-step "how and why" guide, written in everyday language, Dr. Selznick shares practical advice on which screening tools to use to limit the process to just 30 minutes, who should do the screening, which students to screen first, how to interpret the results, and sample letters to send to parents of students with "red flags" of dyslexia.

He also shares tips on using the scores to determine the type and intensity of intervention, and how to monitor progress.

This much needed book is sure to become an essential tool used by public schools across the nation.

As an administrator in a school that teaches students with dyslexia, I can say confidently that this easy to read guide is a must have for educators in determining early signs of reading differences. Dr. Selznick, in his simple, no nonsense writing style, explains the key components of dyslexia screening. He offers suggestions on implementing these screenings into schools that are manageable and useful. Dr. Selznick also identifies various assessments to use and their benefits. One thing to note is what Dr. Selznick proposes is not a dyslexia diagnosis but rather a way to determine early signals of reading struggles. I would highly recommend this book to any private or public school to help develop a plan for screening young learners. It is also very informative for parents to learn more about signs of reading challenges and what schools should be doing to support students. A handy appendix provides many resources.

At some time, perhaps many, you've closed your eyes or stared blankly and dreamt it. You are on a cruise quite innocently and a sudden storm comes up. The ship goes down, but all the passengers manage to get into a lifeboat which is lowered to the sea. Your lifeboat, containing only you and one other man gets blown miles from the rest of the lifeboats. After an arduous night and day or two in the blazing tropical sun you ground on an unhabited island. The other man, of course, is the most gorgeous you have ever seen; its your dream. At that point Claire Thompson takes over and tells an interesting, sometimes teasing, frequently titillating story about how these two men work together to survive while struggling sensitively with their perceived difference in sexual orientiation. Once they are rescued equally difficult struggles arise as each strives to resumes his former life having been changed forever by the ordeal. Thompson shows great insight in conveying the depth of emotion and pain of inner conflict in their struggles both on the island and after their return. She enhanses the dream by introducing some reality.

Another page-turner

My other half and I went on a 3-week cruise in September and brought along this book and a similar one (about cruising)...this was a little too close for comfort if you ask me! Although our ship did not sink, the story line was believable. It wasn't so "far-fetched" that we couldn't identify with the activities on the ship, meeting new people, etc.

This was a great M4M read. The characters were fairly believable...the only thing I would have changed were the names of the characters, LOL. The book cover was a little "out there" for me, but I guess it's supposed to attract readers. I don't think the cover picture really portrays the truth of the story line, but don't get me wrong, we both very much enjoyed the book. The ending was beautiful.

Best of the Best

Island of Temptation was one of the best Gay Romantic (Thriller) Books I have read. This book was realistic at each turn, leaving me with my heart in my throat either due to the disater at hand or the sexual tention and desire these two men had between them. I wasn't impressed with the two men on the cover of the book but was able to lose that impression and make my own once I started feeling out each character as I got further into the book.

Mostly, I found myself viewing this book as though it was a movie, one that brought passion, lust, desire and most importantly Love. Cudo's to the auther for making me feel such a part of these mens lives during every turn from panic, to fear, to so many emotions. You are truely gifted.

A gorgeous book for cat lovers

There are, in my opinion, two kinds of cat books. There are the kind for people who want to breed and show them, and books for people who just love these little creatures and want to know how best to care for them. This beautifully photographed book covers breeds from the familiar (the Shorthair house cat) to the exotic (Peterbald or Donskoy, anyone?) There is an emphasis on health and care, with a lot of thought to the animals' personality. There are sections on feeding, socializing your cat, inherited disorders, training your cat. Everything lovers of cats need to keep their babies healthy and happy. I love this book.

This book is very much loved by my cat crazy daughter. She is almost 7, but reads 3-4th grade level, so she reads out loud from it all the time (hoping I'd get her a cat). Plenty of pictures and writings are good.

Complete Cat Breed Book

I was delightfully surprised at all the information contained in this book. Not only are the various breeds shown in lovely colored pictures, there is valuable information as to the health and idiosyncrasies of each breed. There is a section for American shorthairs and longhair non pedigree cats too. There is information on how to care for your cat when well or sick. I really like this book very much. I would recommend it for anyone who wants to know more about cats and how to take care of cats.

Secrets of Palo revealed.

This book is not a huge text, but has some serious Palo rituals in it. I loved using the ingredients laid out to consecrate elekes and spirit waters. this book contains some serious Palo rituals that are very effective when used correctly. I have a few Palo books but this will be one of my favorite and will be used as a reference book. the info contained here are usually only known by initiates of the Palo Mayombe cult following, these are closely guarded secrets.
