If you consider yourself a programmatic insider, I definitely recommend that you read this book. It describes the fundamental principles of programmatic advertising and surveys the entire field without focusing on any specific technology or area of use. Although this book is not useful for solving particular technical problems, it will start you thinking and will expand your view of the whole field. It’s as if you have been traveling only within your specific area, and then one day someone puts you on a plane and shows you how your area fits into a larger whole. Only then can you see everything happening around you which you do not normally see.

I like the idea of making products from the scratch so this book caught my eye.

This book starts with the basics ... instructions on how to make and store creams, ointments, oils, shampoos and gels,

Then come the recipes under the headings of the oils ... flaxseed oil, evening primrose oil, grapeseed oil, hemp seed oil, shea butter, etc. The first page of each section describes what the oil is, its history and its benefits. Included with the recipes are:

* What it's best for (example - oily skin)
* Tips (example - apply in a circular motion)
* Notes (example - exact measurements are important when making skin and hair care products)
* Any cautions (example - don't use rosemary essential oil if you have high blood pressure or epilepsy)

Here's a recipe from the book if you have dry hair. Mix 1oz/30grams of hemp seed oil and 10 drops of tea tree essential oil into a small glass bottle and seal tightly. Shake to combine. Soak a cotton ball with this mixture and apply from roots to ends. Wrap your hair up in a towel and let stand for two hours, then wash as usual.

There are lots of beautiful full colour pictures throughout the book and the book is easy to follow.

The Best Because it's Authentic!

With so many of the commercially prepared products filled with unknown substances and toxins, this well-researched volume by Mar Gomez can help to ensure that you are using the best creams, blams, shampoos and other cosmetics for skin and hair care because you will be creating them yourself using authentic ingredients. Many of the recipes take a commitment of time and investment in quality ingredients, but there's a very helpful Resources section at the back of the book. But there are also quite a few simple concoctions that you can whip up without spending too much time and money, like an insect repellant using tea tree and andiroba oil or a gentle healing oil for skin irritations made using argan oil and a drop of lavender essential oil. It was also fun learning about some oils we had never heard about before, like Baobab, Babassu and Pequi Oils. Even if never try out the large majority of creative concoctions illustrated in this guidebook, it's worth the time to read about the kinds of ingredients you should insist on when you spend your hard-earned money on health and beauty products.

Good, if not repetitive, recipes.

There are about 10 - 15 simple shampoo recipes in here. All are very easy to make and give great results. Most have a base of castile soap with different essential oils added. The book itself could benefit from a better editor, as there are many grammar, punctuation and spelling errors. (I am not a writer, so please excuse me if I, myself, have made any) All in all, a mediocre book well worth what I paid for it!

First, I must say that this was a free book, so I can say it was worth what I paid for it.

The writing is... well... it felt like it was written in another language and then put through a translation program.

The first half are the same recipe with minor changes in fragrance or oil. The next half contain ingredients no one has readily available. Just Google it and save some cloud storage.

For years my head has itched to distraction. Neither doctors or hair dressers could tell me why. Turns out to be laurel sulfate the number one ingredient in shampoo and other soaps that foam. Trying find shampoos without them is very time consuming and they are expensive. I will now be able to make my own. If you can't find the ingredients in the local grocery store or drug store look for a health food store. More than worth you time and money.

A refreshing call to the SPIRITUAL reading of Scripture

An excellent introduction to reading the Scriptures. Brookman, who is a great scholar in Old Testament and archaeology, calls for the spiritual reading of Scripture. He only starts the reader into the "science of hermeneutics" and instead invites the read to the virtue of reading Scripture. It is a refreshing call to read with the Spirit and not just using stodgy higher critical methods. It is a welcome addition to the field of Bible READING in the vein of McKnight's "The Blue Parakeet" and the fine book by O'Brien and Richards: "Misreading Scripture with Western Eyes."

Brookman embraces the ambiguities of Scripture and is unafraid to answer questions with, "I don't know."
